   Fountain Of Negativity
   by: Greg Wilson
   08/23/05

AR: Party Animals is due to be released on Aug 23rd here what can the fans expect on this cd?

HT: Just a beautiful fountain of negativity.

AR: How would you say Party Animals differs from your previous cds?

HT: It's more bubblegum, its more arena and we've taken the step from death punk to super rock.

AR: You guys got Both Nick Olivera and Keith Morris doing guest vocals on this cd how did that come about?

HT: Since this record was going to be called party animals we wanted to have and since it's a very Los Angeles record like very 1980 but it's still very 2005 so we wanted to have like the party king of 1980 which was Keith Morris back when he was still drinking and we wanted him on the record cause we're all huge Circle Jerks fans and then we wanted the current party kink of Los Angeles which is Nick. It's like bridging 25 years of partying.

AR: What was it about a string orchestra that made you decide to use it on City of Satan?

HT: You know I have always liked the schmaltz of mixing rock and roll and the symphony orchestra. You know when Kiss did the concerts with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra, it's like Kiss trying to pull rock up into the high culture of the orchestra, but when we do it, it's more like we pull the high culture of the symphony orchestra down in the ditch, into the gutter with us and piss all over it, its more like rock band vs. symphony orchestra.

AR: The US release of Party Animals contains a bonus DVD what is on that?

HT: I think it's probably Hanks workout video, its an actual work out video cause when you're a rocker you don't want to spend an hour working out every day, you just want to spend 15 minutes and this is Hanks actual workout video.

AR: What are your favorite tracks off of Party Animals?

HT: It's like when we were mixing it and we had the record company over they just sat there and were like we can't find one single it's like 11 singles.

AR: So your pretty much happy with the album all the way through and there's no filler.

HT: There's no filler at all because we are all environmentalists, it's like when your going to cut down that forest to make all those cd covers, and all that oil to make the CDS you better be damn sure you got a good record. It's like our ecological solution its like so many bands these days put out records with just 2 good songs on them and the rest is filler so if they just waited like 6 to 10 years they would have had like 10 good songs and then put out a record it would save the planet.

AR: You guys started as a parody at what point did you say hey lets take this shit seriously?

HT: Well we're still sort of a parody band in the sense that we don't really take ourselves seriously, but one thing we do take seriously is rock and roll and we always have so its like we kinda pissed all over rock and roll and they ended up loving it so its pretty damn serious I mean its our life.

AR: You guys have been at it since the late 80's what has kept you going all these years?

HT: Pure hatred (with a British accent) Pure Hatred

AR: You guys have 9 dates listed for your US tour do you plan on adding any more?

HT: It's going to be like a shortened more exclusive run cause we're not up to playing like 40 shows, we try to cut our tours over here in Europe to we try to keep them to a minimum. It's better to be exclusive than accessible.

AR: Who are you bringing out with you on this tour?

HT: I've heard talk of The International Noise conspiracy might open up.

AR: You have a new band SCUM how did that band come together?

HT: Because Satyr from Satryicon became friends with Casey Chaos, he came over to Oslo to visit a little bit and we just sort of wanted to be the best of black metal and the best of punk in one band I just played on the record, they just played a show in Olso and I think they might be playing some shows when the record comes out but I just don't have time to play live with them.

AR: Is anyone else in the band involved in other projects?

HT: Its our primary focus but Euroboy has his own band call The Euroboys they are kinda like soft rock kinda west coast rock at the moment they are. Aside from that we really don't have anything else going because we don't have the time.

AR: On the DVD ResErection it took a pretty candid look at the breakup and the reformation of Turbonegro how have things been going since then?

HT: It's just been great it's just like this success story that just keeps going it's like this fairy tale, I think the world is a pretty fucked up place when people like Hank and myself can become rock and roll stars.

AR: Was there ever a point where you thought of replacing Hank and going on without him?

HT: No not really I mean he's a rock and roll messiah you know.

AR: How has Hanks health been since quitting heroin?

HT: Well he's on Methadone and that takes it's toll because it's a pretty tough chemical to put into your body everyday but he's a strong man so he's in pretty good shape.

AR: How long do you see the Turbonegro machine going on?

HT: I don?t know, you know I think when we broke up in 1998 it was primarily because we started to suck and we didn't want to suck so we broke up and when we got back together again in 2002 it was more like this thing where we wanted to see if we could be good again, if we could be a great band again and we said lets play these three shows this summer and if were good then cool and if we're better than before lets keep going and if we suck then we'll just play these few shows. And just from the first rehearsal you see in the film it sounded great and it just felt so good, and we all thought it was just sort of our destination. I think as long as we can keep making as good records as we can make, and despite all the makeup and imagery it's like we're one of the last rock and roll bands on earth.

AR: Now speaking of the makeup and the costumes have you ever thought of getting away from that or is that just part of Turbonegro and that's the way it's always going to be?

HT: It's part of it and you know we always did the wrong thing at the wrong time and that's probably one of the key factors in this whole success story is that so many bands have image consultants and they have strategy meetings and we never had anything we were just drunk, and we're just drunk rock and roll fans who like to play loud music. The whole imagery thing is more like a tip of the hat to great moments in rock and roll history more than anything else. You know rock and roll music should be like the last days of the Roman empire it shouldn't be earnest and honest and all that crap. It should be Violent and decadent.
